The concept of population and community resilience emphasizes inner-
community sources of strength, and is demonstrated in practice in
Anat
Sarig’s
article. Sarig describes in a detailed field journal community
intervention processes implemented by Sha’ar Hanegev Hosen Center
in the community of Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The community of Nahal Oz has
been coping with a daily emergency routine for many years and has faced
the trauma of the loss of four-and-a-half-year-old Daniel Trigerman who
was killed during Operation Protective Edge. Sarig describes in stages
how the community coped with the crisis with the help of the Hosen
Center counseling team: from a battle weary community amidst a crisis
of trust vis-a-vis the Kibbutz leadership, through an in-depth process
of clarifying positions and searching for sources of power, to finding a
rejuvenated narrative of restructuring and the beginning of growth.
