By implementing TripleW technology, waste management partners can enjoy up to 5 X increase in revenues Photo: TripleW For more information: www.triplew.co T ripleW, founded in 2016 , upgrades existing waste management infrastructure to produce high-value, high-demand lactic acid from food waste. Its team of 27 employees includes expert bio-technologists and engineers. The technology, which boosts revenues and profitability of these facilities and helps them transition into the circular economy, has beendeveloped in TripleW’s R&D centre inNetanya, Israel, and in two pilot facilities in Belgium. In 2021 , the company commissioned a semi- commercial demonstration facility in Belgium with local employees under a Belgian subsidiary. TripleW has recently secured $ 16 . 5 million in a Series B funding round led by Firstime Ventures, along with several investors such as Israel Oil and Gas Fund, LG Technology Ventures, Millennium Food-Tech VC, Oriella Limited (a company affiliated with Consensus Business Group), Eddy Shalev, John Zyskind, and Tal Shapira. This funding round brings the total amount raised by TripleW to $ 35 . 5 million, which includes grants from the Israel and Belgium innovation authorities, and a € 6 . 7 million consortiumgrant from the EU's Horizon 2020 program. A Bioplastic Building Block Lactic acid (LA), like the kind TripleW produces, is the building block for extremely versatile PLA bioplastic, used in consumer product packaging, 3 D printing filament, textiles and more. LA is also used as an ingredient in food and beverages, home care and personal care products, and in industrial applications. Currently, LA is made from food crops, such as corn and sugar cane, whereas TripleWhas developed an environmental and financially beneficial process to produce LA locally from food waste. TripleW’s decarbonization technology can be seamlessly implemented in waste management facilities of industrialized nations seeking to address food waste challenges. This implementation will result in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, while also facilitating a profitable and swift transition of the renewable carbon in foodwaste into useful everyday products. Furthermore, TripleW's technology not only converts food waste into useful products but also allows for the processing of PLA bioplastic waste (e.g., food and beverage packaging) together with the food waste, creating a fully closed-loop solution. TripleW partners with waste management and major infrastructure players, chemicals distributors, and PLA manufacturers, aswell as consumer goodsmanufacturers that incorporate LA and PLA in their products.
