International Water & Irrigation

18 is intended specifically to small settlements located far away from the large treatment facilities. The bio treatment in this technology is based on a reactor lined with gravel or plastic substrate. The system includes a couple of basins with a suction chamber within them that allow for circulation of the wastewater between the two basins. In this process the water is pumped from one basin to the other and when the basin is full the pump stops and the water flow back, with the force of gravity, into the first basin. At this point in time a second pump goes into action and fills the now empty basin until it is full again. This circulation process takes place a number of times a day, and it provides organic material, feeding material and oxygen for the nitrogen breaking bacteria. This circulation also allows for creating conditions in which the removal process of both materials occurs. The YTHT technology is already in use in Israel for a number of years and also assists in treatment of agricultural wastewater. Local technology in a historical perspective In addition to the technologies presented in the conference, Dubi Segal, the Irrigation Products andWater Qualitymanager of the Netafim Company has presented the history of activity of the company. The historical outlook added to understanding the importance technology holds in handling the ongoing water quality and quantity crisis we have here in Israel, and in many other countries worldwide. One should remember that when the first drip irrigation systemwas developed by Simcha Blass, every party he approached with this invention, have turned him down, except for Kibbutz Hazerim. The nature and structure of the original drip irrigation system has changed gradually, and it was re-designed in the shape of a maze. Segal has noted that due to the expansion of treated water use for irrigation in Israel, the need has come up to handle a situation where pollutants residues flowing in the treated water cause clogs to the drip system developed by Netafim and other companies. For this reason the new drip system design, that is placed in the systems designed today was transformed. This drip system has the ability of self - rinsing and a higher water passage than before. The drip unit also has a back - flow stop mechanism, which prevents suction of dirt into the pipe when the irrigation stops, and another mechanism allowing irrigation in tens of pulses during the course of the day and night. The drip irrigation assists, at the present as well, for streamlining of irrigation and water usage in Israel and around the world. However, there is still a need for a large quantity of water for a variety of uses. The technologies improving the quality of treated water may also create the most effective combination of treated water use using the novel irrigation methods and irrigation control methodologies developed in Israel over the years. ■ Come Visit us in Agritech Show 8th-10th May Hall 1 THEFIRST IRRIGATION SYSTEMWITHABRAIN Agritech2018,8-10May.Booth100,Hall1 Tel-Avivconventioncenter, Israel Analyze Monitor Automate Vol. 37, No 1, 2018 cover_1/18.indd 1 5/5/18 12:01PM מגזין המים הישראלי מגזין מבית 2018 115 ’ גיליון מס Cover115.indd 1 5/3/18 4:45PM Inside: The Israeli knowledge and technologies save the world from thirst WaterBiz September 2017 Cover111-22/30.indd 1 9/6/17 7:02PM
