Research & Non-Research Academies

> Higher Education >

I

srael is one of themost productive countries

in terms of quality and quantity of academic

research. It is ranked among the top 20

countries by number of publications and among

the world's top 10 countries according to the

index of average citations per publication. In

the last decade Israel also has an impressive

number of Nobel Prize winners. The impact

of research excellence can be seen in the

extraordinary development of technology

based IP (a technology company created by

a Hebrew University Professor was acquired

by Intel for $15 billion).

Israel’s non-research academies educate

professionals in various fields - from music

and art to sciences. Richard Florida has

identified the high value of the Creative Class,

and placed it as an important component

for creating social and economic vitality.

Creative industries in Israel - advertising, film,

broadcasting,online content,mobile content,

music, art, fashion, jewelry, architecture and

design - rely on a network of academic

institutions and contribute 4% to GDP.

Israel's oldest academic institution and one of

the leaders in the Art and Design field is the

Bezalel Academy of Art & Design,Jerusalem,

having over 2000 students at undergraduate

and graduate level. Bezalel has exchange

programs with over 150 universities around

the world, and Erasmus agreements with

over twenty European partners.
